Biography
Jean-Claude Legagneur is one of Haiti's foremost contemporary masters—a painter of monumental portraits and allegories that celebrate human dignity. Born in Port-au-Prince, he studied fine arts in the 1960s and quickly gained recognition for his luminous treatment of skin tone and emotion. His acclaimed Faces of Freedom series, exhibited at the United Nations, portrayed the universality of humanity through vibrant Caribbean colour. A central figure of the 'École de la Beauté,' Legagneur's art fuses social conscience with aesthetic splendour. He continues to live and work between Haiti and the United States.
