Biography
Kerly Gervais was born in Jérémie and came of age artistically in Port-au-Prince's post-war Centre d'Art milieu. Known for market scenes and domestic vignettes, she painted Haitian women at work-selling fruit, washing clothes, tending children-with luminous tenderness. Her compositions glow with patterned textiles and coral-pink light. Gervais's art dignified labour and womanhood, depicting them as the backbone of Haitian life. She passed away in 2015, leaving a body of work prized for its empathy and authenticity.
