Biography

Roland Dorcely studied at the Centre d'Art and the Académie Julian in Paris, where he absorbed abstract expressionist influences that he re-imagined through Caribbean rhythm. His lyrical abstractions-vibrant forms floating in tropical colour-bridge Haitian intuition and modernist experimentation. A cosmopolitan painter, he exhibited across Europe and the Americas, earning recognition as one of Haiti's earliest true modernists. He died in 2017, leaving a legacy of innovation and cultural pride.
