Biography
Born in Port-au-Prince, Wilson Bigaud joined the Centre d'Art at age 18 and quickly became a protégé of Hector Hyppolite. He painted The Wedding at Cana for the Holy Trinity Cathedral-one of the most celebrated murals in Haitian history. Bigaud's genre scenes of festivals, markets, and vodou ceremonies blend vibrant colour with subtle narrative, depicting the dignity of everyday Haitians. His mastery of composition and perspective set him apart within the naïve school. He died in 2010, honoured as one of Haiti's cultural pillars.
